Motorvation Academy of Martial Arts is dedicated to making traditional martial arts accessible and adaptable for those with Parkinson's Disease.
Our head instructor, Nathan Lee Ward, understands this disease differently than most; he has lived with Early-Onset PD since age of 26, diagnosed in 2012.
M.A.F.I.A. is how Nathan now shares his "secret" to success against this disease.
Since 2017, Nathan has utilized the traditional Korean art of Tang Soo Do as his vessel for medication reduction, freezing and fall reduction, combating cognitive decline, and hitting the cardio measures needed for exercise to be effective at limiting progression, while retraining motor control and maintaining a healthy active mindset.
In this program, you will learn to:
-Build strength and balance
-Turn with confidence
-Self-assess and rectify inefficient gait patterns that commonly lead to falls
-Engage your breathing to create flow and rhythm for movement
-Understand how to cue yourself through freezing episodes
-Create cognitive dual-task challenges to push back against brain fog and cognitive decline
-Speak more effectively about PD-related issues
All virtually through traditional martial arts practice!
M.A.F.I.A. is training to regain every ounce of control we can against this disease, in a fun and supportive martial arts community.
Mondays & Thursdays at 4 PM EST and Tuesdays & Saturdays at 12 PM EST
